My Diabetes My Way: June 2016 Update 2

Welcome to the second My Diabetes My Way Newsletter for June 2016.

Recommended Changes to Night-time Hypo Rules for Drivers

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) does not currently differentiate between daytime and night-time episodes of hypoglycaemia. This means that some people with diabetes are losing their driving licence unnecessarily. Experts on driving and diabetes across Europe came together last year to review the directive and, based on current evidence, have voted overwhelmingly for amendments. You can read more about this recommendation here:www.diabetes.org.uk/About_us/News/-EU-changes-night-time-hypos-driving-rules-for-people-with-diabetes

Holyrood Connect Awards

My Diabetes My Way was nominated for two awards the Holyrood Connect Awards last Wednesday (22nd June). This is an awards ceremony that celebrates excellence in Information and Communication Technologies within the public sector. Although we didn’t win, comedian and host Fred MacAulay had some kind words for us during the ceremony. Fred has a son with Type 1 diabetes and regularly presents at diabetes charity fundraising events.
