My Diabetes My Way: July 2016 Update

Welcome to the My Diabetes My Way Newsletter for July 2016.

Diabetes and the Kidneys

If you have diabetes you can be at risk of kidney disease. There are 6 key points to remember:

  • 1. Make sure you have your blood tested for kidney function and urine tested for protein at least once a year
  • 2. Attend all medical appointments and discuss your blood and urine tests (accessible on My Diabetes My Way) with your healthcare professional
  • 3. Maintain your blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure to target levels
  • 4. If you smoke, ask for help to stop
  • 5. Eat healthy, low fat, low salt and low sugar foods
  • 6. Keep active

Scottish Diabetes Survey 2015

The Scottish Government has this month published its annual Scottish Diabetes Survey. This report provides an annual update describing many aspects of diabetes care across the whole of Scotland. This information is useful for each NHS Board to help identify what is needed to further improve the quality of diabetes care. You can find the full report at the following link:www.diabetesinscotland.org.uk/Publications/SDS2015.pdf

Data Quality Improvements

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the quality and completeness of your records on My Diabetes My Way, we have been reviewing the recording of foot-related data items. If you had noticed that some of your previous assessment records were missing from the history tables in the 'my feet' section, they should now be available. The most important of these are your foot risk, foot pulse and monofilament data. You can find out more information about these assessments by clicking the blue '?' icon next to each data item.

If you are not sure where to find your foot data on My Diabetes My Way, the following short video explains the types of information available:www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4lop2VLILI?

Thank you for your continued support.
