My Diabetes My Way: August 2016 Update

Welcome to the My Diabetes My Way Newsletter for August 2016.

10,000 Active Users

Last week, on Tuesday 23rd August, My Diabetes My Way reached a milestone of 10,000 users logging in to access their diabetes records. This is a fantastic achievement and we would like to thank everyone who has contributed to us reaching this total. Having a large, active, user-base is essential for us to maintain continued funding for the service and this level of user activity will certainly help us achieve it.

Derek Brown’s Patient Testimonial

Sometimes it can be helpful to hear how other people use the service to determine how beneficial it can be to yourself. We recently filmed Derek, from Airdrie, speaking about using My Diabetes My Way and the benefits that he gets from it. You can watch his video online here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mwDgbPYBAk?

Looking After Your Eyes

In this month’s newsletter we are talking about eye health. There are 7 key steps to maintain good eye health and reduce your risk of diabetes eye complications:

  • 1. Never miss your eye screening appointments
  • 2. Keep blood glucose levels to target
  • 3. Have regular Blood Pressure checks
  • 4. Make sure your cholesterol level is not too high
  • 5. If you are a smoker then STOP
  • 6. Exercise regularly
  • 7. Eat a healthy balanced diet.

For more information, please see our eye screening video: www.youtube.com/v/7hx49S7-b08?

Please note that formal eye screening through NHS Diabetic Retinopathy Screening (DRS) services is required for adequate grading of your eyes. A digital photograph at your optician is NOT a substitute for DRS imaging.

Thank you for your continued support.
