My Diabetes My Way: December 2020 Update

Welcome to the My Diabetes My Way Newsletter for December 2020.

Ten Years of Records Access

On the 15th December 2020, it will be exactly 10 years since records access was officially launched on My Diabetes My Way. While information resources and interactive content had been available from October 2008, this marked a significant development in the features available, allowing people to “know their numbers” and provide information to help understand them. It also meant people no longer needed to keep their own electronic or paper records, with data updates available after appointments with diabetes services.

Over the last ten years we have been able to demonstrate that people using My Diabetes My Way have shown improvements in routinely collected results such as HbA1c, weight and blood pressure. These changes ultimately lead to improved health outcomes. Results of surveys have also shown that people feel more knowledgeable about their diabetes and motivated to make positive changes. Healthcare professionals also inform us that this has contributed to more productive and constructive consultations.

We would like to thank you for being involved with the My Diabetes My Way service and for your support over the last ten years!

Preparing for the Festive Period
Prepare for the festive break and plan to manage your health. During the holidays keep yourself safe by being prepared:

  • If you are taking medication make sure you have enough supplies to last over the holiday period
  • If you are blood glucose or blood ketone monitoring, make sure you have enough test strips and lancets
  • The accuracy of blood glucose meters and test strips can be affected by the cold. Avoid leaving in cars or unheated rooms. Store at room temperature
  • If you haven’t already, speak to your diabetes team about sick day rules in advance
  • Keep well hydrated
  • Seek advice from NHS 24 if your condition deteriorates or worsens despite following your sick day rules
  • And most importantly, enjoy your festive break while staying safe

My Diabetes My Way Admin

Due to the current situation with Coronavirus, it is taking us longer to collect mail, create new enrolment packs and send out registration paperwork for you to access your diabetes records. We are currently processing enrolment packs in batches every two weeks, but we are now happy for you to email us back a photo or scanned copy of your signed form to avoid any further delays.
