My Diabetes My Way: December 2021 Update

Welcome to the My Diabetes My Way Newsletter for December 2021.

Preparing for the Festive Period

Prepare for the festive break and plan to manage your health. During the holidays keep yourself safe by being prepared:
If you are taking medication, make sure you have enough supplies to last over the holiday period
If you are blood glucose or blood ketone monitoring, make sure you have enough test strips and lancets
The accuracy of blood glucose meters and test strips can be affected by the cold. Avoid leaving in cars or unheated rooms. Store at room temperature
If you haven’t already, speak to your diabetes team about sick day rules in advance
Keep well hydrated
Seek advice from NHS 24 if your condition deteriorates or worsens despite following your sick day rules
And most importantly, enjoy your festive break while staying safe

Diabetes Advent Calendar

This year we have been running our “Diabetes Advent Calendar” using Twitter and Facebook. In it you will find helpful tips and links every day including fun ways to learn a bit more about your condition and how to manage it, particularly at this time of year. New Digital Health and Care Strategy

The Scottish Government has recently published its revised “Digital health and care strategy”. This publication sets out approaches to improve the care and wellbeing of people in Scotland by making best use of digital technologies: https://www.gov.scot/publications/scotlands-digital-health-care-strategy/

One of the key aims is:
“Provide access to, and enable citizens to have control over, their own health and care information – including the ability to view and update information contained in their records, and access information such as test results, letters and treatment/care plans.”

My Diabetes My Way has now been delivering online access to diabetes records to people in Scotland for eleven years. If you have not accessed your data yet, you can register to do so here:

Festive Period Support

My Diabetes My Way and myaccount will have limited support cover until Wednesday 5th January 2022. We ask you to please bear with us during this time and we will respond to any emails and feedback as soon as we can on our return.

My Diabetes My Way Admin

Due to the current situation with Coronavirus, it is taking us longer to collect mail, create new enrolment packs and send out registration paperwork for you to access your diabetes records. We are currently processing enrolment packs in batches every two weeks, but we are now happy for you to email us back a photo or scanned copy of your signed form to avoid any further delays.

If you have not yet managed to gain access to your diabetes records on My Diabetes My Way, or would like an update on the status of your registration, please let us know. You can contact us regarding any problems or request further help and support by emailing: mydiabetes.myway@nhs.scot
