My Diabetes My Way: July 2024 Update
Welcome to the My Diabetes My Way Newsletter for July 2024.
One Million Step Challenge
July saw the start of the Diabetes UK “One Million Step Challenge” campaign. You can easily take part as an individual, a family or a team and also choose the distances you do so that everyone can make a contribution. The campaign runs from 1st July to 30th September and registration is free. More details can be found here: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/support-us/fundraise/fundraising-events/one-million-steps
Remember you can link your Fitbit with your account on My Diabetes My Way so you can easily see your progress towards your individual target.
For those of you planning to complete some of your steps in sunnier climates, we have added a table about taking diabetes technology through airport security machines. It is important to keep your sensors and pumps safe so that they continue to work properly throughout your holiday.
June’s newsletter covered lots of other aspects of staying well traveling and on holiday so please refer to this before you set off: https://mydiabetesmyway.scot.nhs.uk/for-you/news/my-diabetes-my-way-june-2024-update/
National Minority Health Awareness Month
July is also National Minority Health Awareness Month. People of a South-East Asian background can be at a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes and we have several resources available to support them. We have information about diabetes and its complications in several languages including Arabic, Cantonese, Urdu and Punjabi. These can be found under the “My Languages” section: https://mydiabetesmyway.scot.nhs.uk/know-more/my-languages/
There are also specific resources regarding diet at the following links:
