My Diabetes My Way: March 2023 Update

Welcome to the My Diabetes My Way Newsletter for March 2023.

Health and Social Care: Data Strategy
In February 2023, the Scottish Government published its Health and Social Care: Data Strategy. We are delighted that My Diabetes My Way has been referenced as an example of success in providing people with access to their healthcare records. The reports states an “example of empowering individuals by allowing them to actively contribute to their record is My Diabetes My Way (MDMW). MDMW currently supports people to access their health record online or to upload a reading about their wellbeing. There are opportunities for this to be developed for other conditions or in different settings. Learning from MDMW’s success we want to further expand access to data”. You can access the full report here: https://www.gov.scot/publications/data-strategy-health-social-care-2/

New Research Published on My Diabetes My Way
We are continually looking to improve My Diabetes My Way, to make it easier to use and more useful to you. One of the ways we do this is through online surveys. The results of a recent evaluation have been published in the Diabetic Medicine journal. These report positive user experience and highlight benefits experience in supporting self-management. It also uncovered some areas for improvement that we are currently prioritising. You can read the full paper here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/dme.15085

Join Up Your Fitbit Data
My Diabetes My Way contains a link to Fitbit (www.fitbit.com) that allows you to add your activity tracker data to My Diabetes My Way. If you have a Fitbit device, log in to My Diabetes My Way and select “My Services”. You can then link your Fitbit account and connect your Fitbit records. When you do this, you will see a new section named “My Activity” where you can monitor your steps, heart rate and many other Fitbit measurements.

Even if you don't own a Fitbit device, you can still track your activity for free by downloading the Fitbit app on your smartphone and using Fitbit’s MobileTrack function. MobileTrack lets you use the Fitbit app without a Fitbit device by using your phone's sensors to track basic activity data including steps, distance, and calories burned.
