My Diabetes My Way: October 2023 Update
Welcome to the My Diabetes My Way Newsletter for October 2023.
My Diabetes My Way is 15!
In October, My Diabetes My Way turned 15 years old! The website was officially launched at the Diabetes in Scotland Conference in Edinburgh in October 2008. The original website consisted of information leaflets and multimedia resources, with major new features being added throughout its development.
Records access for patients has been available since December 2010, with our mobile app following in 2018, and eLearning courses launched in 2019. We are currently working with the Scottish Government to agree funding for the next 3-5 years and look forward to continuing to deliver the service for you.
World Diabetes Day 2023
My Diabetes My Way will celebrate World Diabetes Day on Tuesday 14th November. World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on 14th November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who began experiments using insulin along with Charles Best in 1921. Every year, the International Diabetes Federation campaign focuses on a dedicated theme that runs for one or more years. The theme from 2021 to 2023 is "Access to Diabetes Care".
In 2023, the campaign will focus on the importance of knowing your risk of type 2 diabetes and highlighting the impact of diabetes-related complications. It will also highlight the importance of having access to the right information and care to ensure timely treatment and management. These are areas that My Diabetes My Way has been supporting for all people living with diabetes since its launch!

Scottish Diabetes Survey 2022
The Scottish Government has published the 2022 Scottish Diabetes Survey. This report provides an annual update describing many aspects of diabetes care across the whole of Scotland. This information is useful as it helps each Scottish NHS Board identify areas to focus on to further improve the quality of diabetes care in their area. There are now over 339,000 people living with diabetes in Scotland. You can find the full report at the following link:
